Abstract: Empowering remote users to navigate expansive environments through a robot surrogate presents a significant challenge, especially when constrained by limited physical space. Our project aims to enable individuals within confined settings to explore a comprehensive marketplace using ’Redirected Walking’ techniques. Leveraging virtual reality (VR) headsets and robot-mounted cameras, users will visually access either a virtual or real marketplace. Their head movements will guide the robot’s navigation, effectively making the user’s head the focal point for the robot to follow. The seamless interaction between the user’s movements in VR and the robot’s response facilitated through ROS (Robot Operating System), forms the core of our approach, bridging the gap between confined spaces and expansive environments for remote exploration.
